Originally from North Carolina, I’ve been a resident of Colorado since the late 70’s, with no plans to ever leave! I was introduced to motorcycling as a kid, starting on a Honda Mini Trail 50. I’ve ridden dirt bikes, enduros, sport bikes…and BMWs for the past 5 years. (2018 R1200GS Rallye and 2019 R1200 RT) I love people, music, and riding in this amazing part of the Western US.

joined the BMW club a couple of years back after stalking them and finally
joining some rides. After owning a number of bikes, I settled on the BMW GS – it suits my ride style, its comfortable and my BMW friends like it.

Treasurer
John Murakami
John is originally from Hawaii and has been living in Colorado since 2005. He’s been a member of the club since 2011, after he got back into riding after a 20-year hiatus and purchased a 2004 R1150RT. The riding bug really bit him when he bought a GS and started riding off road. John has ridden many, many miles and days crisscrossing the country and going down south over the border to Mexico six times.
Through the club and riding, he’s made numerous everlasting friendships and great memories along the way. His favorite quote is one by his friend; Goodwill, friendship, and riding does not stop at the border.
Currently, John has five bikes in his stable, the R1150RT, R1200RT, R1200GSA, Honda Nighthawk 650 and the Yamaha WR250R.

Webmaster
Chuck Kopelson
I'm from the Northern suburbs of Chicago and began riding back in 1967. Not much dirt in Chicago so all of the riding was on the street until I moved to Colorado in 2013. I spent a lot of time in Colorado over the years doing photography and exploring the ghost towns and mining areas in various 4 wheelers. I've had various Harley's, a KTM 1290 Super Adventure and now a Honda Africa Twin. Chuck spent many years doing web development and computer systems.

Ride Coordinator
Scott Dunaway
Scott learned to ride on a Yamaha DT100 Enduro using it as a work commuter as a teenager. He passed on his love for motorcycles to his kids who started riding on a beat up little Honda XR50 that left a trail of blue smoke wherever it went. In 2019, Scott moved from Michigan to Colorado and traded his R1200RT for a dual-sport GS to soak in all the joys of the twisty paved and gravel roads of the Rocky Mountains. He started doing ride coordination for the club in 2021 and has been growing the schedule to include rides that leave from Northern Colorado.
Safety Training Officer
Jared Canada
Jared has long been obsessed with motorcycles. From the first cruise on a scooter when he was twelve up until now, riding has been an all-consuming passion. He has owned multiple bikes over the years, and will likely continue to buy, sell, and trade his way into something else. In addition to being an MSF rider coach, Jared's focus is training for competitive skills challenges (think slow-speed police maneuvers), and learning new tactics for staying safe on the street. Due to his training, practice, and safety interests, Jared has been asked to helm the newly minted Safety/Training Officer for the club. Exciting times ahead! You can find him riding with the club into the mountains most Saturdays, or turning circles in a parking lot on Sundays.

Originally from Pennsylvania, I've called Colorado home since 1997. I spent a lot of time on the back of my Dad's motorcycle as a kid and experienced my first real moto camping adventure at the age of 10 when we took a week long 1,600 mile round trip to Canada. I've owned a Suzuki, 2 Triumph Tigers and now ride my 3rd BMW GS (1250 Rallye) which is the perfect bike for me. I completed the Rawhyde Off Road Riding Course in 2022 and now seek out dirt roads everywhere I go. I love family & friends, learning, teaching, photography, camping, shooting sports and generally anything outdoors.
Social Chair
Frank Koppala
I was born in Denver, moved to Los Angeles, CA when I was four, lived my entire life there until I moved to Colorado in March of 2017. I have been riding since 2007 and own two motorcycles. A Harley Davidson Heritage Softail, and a BMW R1200 GS Adventure. I joined the Club almost almost three years ago, and love the comradery and the rides and have come to know many great people whom I am now proud to call close friends. I have played competitive tennis most of my adult life, and still do. I also enjoy skiing and hiking, and summited Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2015. I also played French Horn in the L.A. Lawyers Philharmonic Orchestra, from 2009 through 2017, until I moved to Colorado. I am excited and honored to serve on the Board, and hope to contribute in a small but meaningful way to the BMW Club and all of it's members
